The Princess Bride (1987)

  • Adventure, Drama, Fantasy, Romance, Comedy
  • 1h 50m

Directed by Rob Reiner (When Harry Met Sally, This is Spinal Tap) this romantic fantasy adventure is adapted from the book by screenwriter William Goldman (Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, All the President’s Men). It offers an original and comical spin on the classic fairytale.

A grandfather reads a book called The Princess Bride to his sick and bedridden grandson. It tells the tale of a farmhand from the kingdom of Florin called Westley who plans to marry the love of his life, the bold noblewoman Buttercup. But after Westley disappears during a pirate attack, Buttercup is forcibly betrothed to Prince Humperdinck. But is Humperdinck all that he seems? And did Westley truly perish at sea?

The whole family will get lost in this funny and swashbuckling escapade. But be warned, for days after you might find yourself saying: “Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die!”
